Review: GOOD Hemp Protein

I'm currently training for the London Marathon (you can sponsor me if you like ;) bit.ly/Wby3D) and one of the things that often gets forgotten about when training for any sort of event is food. Everything in moderation and all that, but most of is don't realise that we don't really get the right variety of nutrients and energy in order to maximise our sporting power.

I thought I would give the Good Hemp Protein shakes a try.  Good Hemp Protein says that it "provides everything we need whether we aim to build muscle, supplement meals, burn fat or simply just to aid our training and exercise."  The thing that stands out about Good Hemp is that it's 100% natural, all plant-based and raw (cold pressed).  It also contains omegas 3 and 6 and amino acids, so all the good stuff really.  It's made from cold-milled seeds of the Cannabis Sativa plant, grown and farmed naturally and sustainably in the UK.  It's also suitable for vegans, gluten-free, kosher, so it's ideal for everyone's dietary needs.

I tried out the Fit Shake, strawberry flavour and was quite surprised to find it was green.  Colour aside though, it does taste like strawberries.  The thing about Good Hemp is that it is all natural and sourced from the UK, and so I would be more inclined to go for this than any other protein shake.  To give this a fair review, I probably would have to test this out everyday for a substantial amount of time, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone who was a lot more serious into their sport and needed the extra supplements to support them.

Yu! Healthy yoghurt and fruit snacks

Yu! is a new range of fruit bars and pieces, their products are made from real fruit and are completely free from artificial flavourings, colourings and preservatives, using only the best ingredients without compromising on taste. The new range includes:

  • 100% Jus Fruit (RRP £0.67) – delicious bite-sized pieces of dried fruit, one of your 5-a-day and less than 90 calories.
  • Yogurt-CoatedFruit Pieces (RRP £0.45)– tasty fruit bites covered in a creamy yogurt coating, containing real fruit and real yogurt.
  • Yu! Bars (RRP £1.79 for 3) – 40% fruit combined with cereal in a gorgeously healthy yogurt-coating.

We were sent a few of each flavour for review, they are sweet but taste really natural and wholesome, I'm a sucker for anything yoghurt coated, so these were perfect for me. I have a long commute to work on the tube and I don't always plan my time well enough in the mornings to have breakfast, these were perfect as a snack to tide me over until I could grab a proper breakfast near my office. I also snacked on them before the training runs for my 10k this weekend, as they were light but gave me energy.
I preferred the Yu! Bars over the other products as they were very convenient and handbag friendly, and are available in a range of flavours including strawberry, cherry, wild berry and apricot. I also think the price is great value for money and I will certainly be buying these again to snack on!
I'm sure these would also be great for kid's lunch boxes as they are free from artificial flavourings, colourings and preservatives.
